Bolshoi Ballet soloist Natalia Osipova will join American Ballet Theatre as guest artist for the 2009 spring season. This will be Osipova’s first appearance with the company and coincides with Bolshoi Artist Director Alexei Ratmansky’s ABT residency set to begin in January of 2009.
Osipova studied at the Moscow State Academy and joined the corps de ballet of the Bolshoi Ballet immediately upon her graduation. She was promoted to leading soloist this month on a solid foundation of accumulated roles such as Kitri in Don Quixote, the Spanish Bride in Swan Lake, Aspiccia in The Pharaoh’s Daughter, Medora and Odalisque in Le Corsaire and Jeanne in Ratmansky’s staging of Flames of Paris, along with soloist roles in Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room and George Balanchine’s Serenade. She received a Golden Mask Award from the Theatre Union of Russia this year for her In the Upper Room performance.
