Mark Morris (1984). Photo by Peggy Jarrell Kaplan.
The Museum of Performance & Design’s current exhibition in San Francisco offers intimate portraits of choreographer Mark Morris by luminaries of the lens such as Annie Leibovitz, William Wegman and Martin Shoeller. The 16 portraits (three more hang in the lobby of the War Memorial Opera House) were taken between 1984 and 2008 and originally included in an exhibition at Lincoln Center to celebrate the Mark Morris Dance Group’s 25th anniversary.
Mark Morris: Portraits will be on exhibit at the Museum of Performance & Design, 401 Van Ness Ave., 4th floor, in San Francisco, through March 25, 2009. Admission is free.
